The High Seas Log Flume was open in the late 1970’s at the Playland Castaway’s Cove at the boardwalk of the New Jersey Shore. The High Seas Log Flume is open to the salt air and harsh weather all year around, and besides these harsh conditions, the ride is operated by using chlorine water that is bad for carbon steel. After over forty years of standing up to use and abuse, the owner knew they wanted to utilize the benefits of hot-dip galvanizing once again on this timeless amusement ride. Being completely disassembled, every piece of steel track, channel pans and structural beams and columns were stripped of their original galvanizing, repaired, inspected and then hot-dip galvanized again. The owner consulted with the local galvanizer to discuss how they could reuse all of the steel components again, saving them downtime and investment costs.
The ride is designed in a typical course that the riders sit in log shaped boat and floats through the track channel pans filled with water through a winding course. There are two lift hills that culminate with drops and a splashdowns soaking the riders. The original riders from the 1970's are now taking their grandchildren on this very same ride they once rode on as a teen. Because of hot-dip galvanizing this ride will stand the test of time for another forty years.
