The project for Packaged Cooling Systems was to provide a racking / conveyor system for their vacuum coolers to take cabbage to the marketplace, for example, companies such as Dole in the making of coleslaw as one of the signature products. The cabbage is picked in four states depending on their growing seasons: Florida, Georgia, Ohio and Michigan.
Packaged Cooling Systems specializes in the manufacturing of custom industrial refrigeration systems, primarily for use in the agriculture industry. The refrigeration system not only increases the shelf life of the product but will also expand the market to more distant locations. The racking / conveyor system allows for 16 large boxes of cabbage to be transported in the vacuum coolers.
Latanick Equipment was calling on a current customer of 30 years in the Jacksonville, FL area when they crossed paths with Packaged Cooling Systems nearby to discuss business opportunities.
After their initial meeting, a racking / conveyor system was discussed to take the cabbage to market. Hot-dip galvanized steel was the preferred option as they wanted coating durability, corrosion performance and life cycle cost based on the wet, damp conditions regarding moisture.
Latanick Equipment located in Huron, Ohio contacted V&S to assist in the finalization of the design especially regarding venting & draining. The V&S Operations Manager and Sales & Marketing Manager met with them to finalize venting and draining details, especially regarding the way the racking system was to be hung / hot-dipped in the kettle.
The racking / conveyor system has been a huge success. Having a galvanized system will allow vacuum coolers to have a safe working environment for years to come without worrying about the durability to the coating system.
