Route 434 Greenway

A 2.5 mile bicycle and pedestrian path built to provide a safe walking link between the Binghamton University Campus and downtown. For many years along 2.5 traffic laden miles of Route 434 roadway, pedestrians have been pushed to the side of the road. The 434 Greenway project changed that. Providing a walking path with heavy duty railing separating the people walking from the traffic flying by, this path is traversed by students making their way to campus, families taking a stroll downtown and commuters looking for a greener way to travel. This project has been in the works for many years and will be well traveled for many years to come.

“Investment projects like this greenway show that we understand that transportation isn’t just planting trains and automobiles, it’s about providing opportunities for all users creating ways for people to live, work and explore their communities without even getting into a car.,” said NYDOT’s Public Information Specialist, Scott Cook.

Incorporating approximately 60 tons of hot-dip galvanized heavy duty railings between roadway and walkway, this steel barrier will surely provide many years of easy access to the downtown area’s many shops and facilities.
