The Veterans Glass City Skyway Bridge is A Cable-Stayed bridge that crosses over the Maumee River in Toledo, Ohio. Until it transfers over to local control, the bridge is owned by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). The skyway is ODOT’s largest single construction project ever. After many delays the bridge opened in 2007. During the original construction all the original bridge railing was painted and after 13 years of service the rail had corroded to the point that it was no longer safe. In 2020 the decision was made to replace the railing with a duplex coating consisting of Hot Dip Galvanizing and Polyurethane paint per Ohio Department of Transportation specifications.
The new Graphics Packaging Mill is expected to have an annual capacity of approximately 500,000 tons. Graphic Packaging adopted a Sustainability Program in 2008 that included the sustainability hot dipped galvanized coatings, which was critical for a project this size. Weiland Construction was chosen to be the Construction Manager due to the ability to manage the entire process from site management, engineering, building design, and erection. Selection was also due to successful completion of three new mills for Graphics Packaging in years prior. Builders Iron and V&S Galvanizing Detroit worked closely to process a load of steel per day and deliver to the jobsite on time. No delays, no quality issues, and got the job done on time and under budget.
