The Vince Lombardi Service Plaza in Ridgefield New Jersey was in need of a major renovation. The old building to the service center was very old and outdated. The State of New Jersey Turnpike Authority wanted to update and modernize the service center so travelers can enjoy their experience when they need to take a break while traveling on the New Jersey Turnpike.
This pillar was built as a main focal point at front entrance. It will catch people’s eyes during the day and leave people memorized when it is lit up at night.
During the design of the new service center the New Jersey Turnpike wanted a unique design at the front entrance of the service center. Since the service center is named after Vince Lombardi the New Jersey Turnpike Authority wanted to have a theme to the building. They came up with design that will grab people attention and designed a tall pillar that represents the design like Lombardi Trophy. When Formit Steel approached the galvanizer with the project, it brought excitement to the team as the local manager is a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. The galvanizing team worked closely with the design and fabrication team in regards to proper venting and draining of the steel tubing and ensuring proper final smoothness and appearance. This pillar was built as a main focal point at front entrance of the service center and need a coating that can withstand the changing weather in the Northeast. They choose hot dip galvanizing because of the strong durable coating and the long-term cost for maintaining the steel structure.
